A little bit about me.....My first Post.

Hi! My name is Domingo Vara. I am an aspiring independent filmmaker, and have created this blog to intorduce you to my passion - filmmaking. I invite you to check out the blog - review my most recent work, "Between Stories", and follow my filmmaking career.

Here is a little bit about me..... Ten years ago, I left my hometown of San Antonio, Texas and came to Hollywood. As a struggling actor, I dropped in and out of college. While studying acting, I became intrigued with the creative process that took place behind the camera. After a few years, I made the decision to pursue a formal education in filmmaking. I took a huge leap of faith, moved to New York and applied to the film school at CUNY’s City College in Harlem. For three years, I laid the foundation for my future. Following my graduation, I was offered a job back in my hometown, producing commercials for the largest Hispanic-advertising agency in the country. After two years of learning the producing aspect of filmmaking, my beautiful bride and I decided to move back to Los Angeles to further pursue our careers as actors/filmmakers. I continued to produce television and radio commercials from 1997 to 2000 on a freelance basis. In the spring of 2000, I decided it was time to return to filmmaking.

The last 5 Years~!

Over the last 5 years, I have produced numerous television and radio commercials, and one exciting feature film. Producing and Directing "Between Stories" was a great challenge - a blessing in disguise. Fortunalty my wife Giovanna was there to co-produce the film with me!

I hope you enjoy the blog, welcome, and I look forard to many more posts!

-Domingo

P.S. Ask me questions, post a comment - feel free! I am here to grow and learn.

Over 200,000 people died in the last hour. How many woke up knowing today would be their last? How many would still be alive if they had woken up one-minute later; hit one less traffic light; taken the stairs instead of the elevator? What races through your mind when you are trapped with complete strangers in an elevator during an earthquake twenty stories above a concrete landing, never knowing whether you’ll live or fall to your death? What would you do differently today?

Giovanna Brokaw

GIOVANNA BROKAW (actor/producer)

Born and raised in the Los Angeles area, Giovanna has had a passion for the arts since childhood. After seeing a Laurence Olivier film on an airplane bound for the Caribbean, at the age of ten she decided that acting would be her profession of choice. Unfortunately, her parents were not on board with this decision, so she had to wait until college before she could do her “own thing.”

After receiving a bachelor in fine arts from Chapman University, Giovanna moved to New York to pursue theatre on the stages of the Big Apple. After years of working with a variety of writer/directors in original productions, she moved to San Antonio, Texas where she married and continued acting with the San Antonio Public Theatre. Sadly, with only one equity house in San Antonio, there was not much work to be had in the off-season.

In order to continue with a more active pursuit of their acting careers, Giovanna and her husband returned to Hollywood. With her wildly mixed heritage, she found that she did fit neatly into casting categories. So, after relocating to a town saturated with the biz, it was still difficult to find work. Not deterred by this fact, Giovanna and her husband decided to create their own opportunity and setout to produce their first feature film. The product of this adventure is Between Stories and it is only the first of many to come!
